Situated in the symbolic, wooden structure lined, circular arena in the meadows, the Drumtroddan Performance Area will showcase a multitude of street and performance artists. From sword swallowing to circus skills and fire walking, prepare to be amazed, enthralled and entertained by each and every act the arena has to offer. Each night as the darkness descends, the Drumtroddan will play host to a spectacular array of fire spinners and jugglers, all visible from the main stages audience. At the centre of the arena will be the Eden Sculpture which will be burned on the Saturday night in an amazing array of fire spinning and drumming antics.
The Shellycoat Kids Area will be housed in a beautiful, octagonal, printed tent and will be run by Tribe of Tat who will organise, educate, delight and entertain the festivals young crowd (and possibly a few older ones too!). From mask making to theatre and recyclable arts, the children will be brought in to engage and feel part of the festival as well as engage with other children in a safe, supervised environment, providing a bit of rest bite for tired mums and dads. It is hoped that the activities in the Shellycoat over the weekend will culminate in a procession by the children and possibly a few parents.
The Rheged fair will consist of stalls, café’s and food vendors. The food traders have been hand picked upon a set of principles which entails low cost, locally supplied, environmentally friendly, healthy, good quality products (mostly organic, free range and hand prepared).
The market stalls have mainly been made up by local traders but will include festival essentials, hand crafted art pieces, local wares, interesting festival garments and jewellery from both Dumfries and Galloway and across the world.
